Cerro San Cristobal
Located in the middle of the capital, between the communes of Recoleta and Providencia, Cerro San Cristóbal rises to a height of 845 meters above sea level. Its name is due to San Cristóbal de Licia, patrono of the travelers. Who made the appointment was the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia.
Metropolitan Zoo: officially inaugurated in December 1925, this zoo is the result of years of fundraising and significant management to bring animals from the Argentine cities of Mendoza and Buenos Aires. Currently this place has more than 1000 animals, differentiated in 58 species, all of them taken care of by 50 professionals who operate in the place.
Funicular: Installed in 1925, it serves to access the Zoo and to reach the summit of Cerro San Cristobal from Pío Nono Street. Generally it works from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Cable Car: Located on the slopes of Cerro, on Pedro de Valdivia street. This means of transport began operating in 1980. Its route passes through the Tupahue Pool, the Botanical Garden, and the restaurant Camino Real until reaching the summit.
Pools Tupahue and Antilen: Inaugurated in 1966 and 1977, both mean "place of god" and "that there is sun" in Mapudungún and Quechua respectively. They are open all summer season and can be entered for payment of a ticket.
To access the hill you must enter via Pío Nono Street, in the neighborhood Bellavista and climb by funicular on the hill until you reach an esplanade that has a lookout and business. Also it is possible to enter by the street Pedro de Valdivia north ascending until the summit by the Cable Car or on foot surrounding the hill.
Those arriving by vehicle can access by Pío Nono in Recoleta or by Pedro de Valdivia in the commune of Providencia. In both cases you have to pay a toll that is around $ 3,000.
